Carol Brown.

I am a retired teacher and also run a caravan site.  I am married to Peter who is an accountant.  We have five children and nine grandchildren.  I first joined the choir over thirty years ago and wished that I had done it many years before as it is a great way to relax and unwind after a busy day.  I love being part of ‘In Harmony’ because everyone is so friendly and we all enjoy singing under the direction of Margaret, our MD.  The greatest ‘buzz’ for me is to see the smiling faces of the audience and to hear the applause when we perform.

I joined the choir in its mixed form, four weeks after giving birth to my fourth son, eleven years ago! I really missed singing carols at Christmastime, and that’s what made me look for a choir to join. Wednesday evenings, choir rehearsal night, are the highlight of my week. Everyone is so friendly and, it doesn’t matter how stressed I might feel when I arrive, I always go home feeling happy and chilled! I couldn’t recommend our choir highly enough, we are making a good sound under Margaret’s tuition, and we can only go on getting better.

My husband and I moved to York in August 2012 from South Yorkshire. Although I had not sung in a choir since before my children were born (and our eldest is now in her 40s) I decided that a good way to become involved and meet new people was to join a choir. I had little confidence about my singing ability so didn’t want to face an audition, so was delighted to find that this was not needed for ‘In Harmony’. What a good decision that was!!  I have met a lot of lovely people and, having learned again how to sing, find the rehearsals fun and singing in the concerts exhilarating.

I work as a medical secretary with the NHS, am married to Kevin, a Building Inspector and we have three grown-up children.  I’ve been a member of ‘In Harmony’ since January 2013 and my only previous experience of singing in a choir was as a teenager many years ago!  I’m glad I plucked up the courage to go along to the recruitment evening as everyone was really friendly and I knew straight away that I was going to enjoy it.
